The song had been climbing up the U.S. charts for a few weeks before the song was announced as second single (possibly due to its use on American Idol as the show's "vote off" song). Chris Daughtry wrote the song on the couch the day before he left for American Idol . The theme of the song centers around the singer being grateful for what he has, but still longing for his family.
