Kochi team to be called 'Kochi Tuskers Kerala'

Luckily they have decided to go for something different from FIGHTER kinda names like royals, kings, darevevils or warriors. This name was voted for most by an online poll and takes over from Indi Commandos Kerala Excerpts from cricinfo.com The Kochi team in the fourth edition of the IPL will be called 'Kochi Tuskers Kerala', a name decided on through an online poll. "The state animal of Kerala is the Asian Elephant, also known as the Indian Elephant. Therefore the appropriateness in selection of the Team Kochi IPL name, Kochi Tuskers Kerala by the fans all over India cannot be ignored. Elephants are the largest land animals alive today and their tusks are attractive, sharp and intimidating," Mukesh Patel, the director of Kochi Cricket Pvt Ltd, a consortium of six companies that are shareholders of the franchise, said. Kochi IPL to be called INDI COMMANDOS and sponsored by LOTTO

The Kochi IPL team has finally selected a name for itself, it will be called INDI COMMANDOS . The men in orange, most probably have chosen to step aside the usual ROYAL nomenclature chosen by almost every other team in IPL, like Royals, Royal challenge, Kings etc . Warriors of Pune have been joined by the Commandos of India from Kochi. The Kochi IPL team, which is a new addition to the IPL, has signed up with Italian sportswear brand Lotto as its first sponsor for a period of one year for an undisclosed sum. "We are currently in talks with a lot of companies and it is an ongoing process. More sponsors will be signed once we get closure to the tournament. Lotto is our first sponsor," IPL Kochi director Mehul Shah told PTI. The franchisee is looking to get around 8-10 sponsors on board before the IPL season four kicks off in April. IPL 2011 to open and end in Chennai

The 2011 season of the IPL will begin with defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The preliminary schedule released by the BCCI has the ten franchises playing at 13 venues over 51 days. The schedule may undergo changes keeping in view the state assembly elections to be held in a number of the host venues. The Indian board has also said that the four play-off games after the league stage - as per the revised format announced last year - will be split evenly between the Wankhede Stadium and the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with Chennai hosting the final on May 28. The finalists and the losing team from the third play-off match will qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 2011. Jayawardene to lead Kochi & Sehwag to lead Delhi in IPL 4

The former Sri Lanka captain was asked to lead the IPL franchise whose squad also includes his fellow Sri Lanka team-mates Muttiah Muralitharan and Thisara Perera, on Tuesday, and said he would be "thrilled" to do so. "Leading an IPL franchise will be a really exciting personal challenge for me," Jayawardene said. "The fact that Kochi is a new franchise with such a passionate and knowledgeable fan base in Kerala makes the captaincy even more exciting." Jayawardene was Kochi's big signing, who bought him for US$1.5 million at the IPL auction in January, and said he is pleased with the mix of players in the side.
