It was 18 months ago when Sreesanth was seen last rubbing that red leather over his whites at this very stadium- THE GREEN PARK, Kanpur. After that it has been a hellride for the guy from Kerala starting from that slap soap to bouncing off injuries and battling out with words against batting giants and finally recieving warnings and sacking threats from BCCI and The Kerala Cricket Association. This young gun from Kochi was tested in harsh conditions and all this while he learnt that it was not drama and SRK that sold on TV but performance and hardwork that paid. Yes, people were entertained when he used to poke Symonds or shed tears after an IPL match, but never really helped him shape up his career.
He began the day with a very expensive spell going at a lil less than 6 an over until captain Dhoni decided to pull the brakes. The second spell lasted for just an over and he gave away 7 runs in that.
But it was the third and fourth spell that redefined all definitions and theories laid by frontrunners regarding the pitch.
Day 2 saw the resurrection of Saanthakumaran Sreesanth!
Rise of the Phoenix,,,,the fallen,,,whatever filmy tag you want to give this boy stays valid!
Srikkant who once quoted Sree to be an Immature and overhyped player now has got the words in his lil praisebook changed for the paceman. He has said that Sreesanth is the ultimate addition to Dhoni's armoury.
Not just Srikkant, Sreesanth has managed to win every mind that was watching the game, right from Ravi Shastri to Dhoni. For a change, the fans surrounding the ground at Kanpur were chanting Sreesanth's name on every ball he bowled in the second innings.
Even during the presentation and chats with the Ravi Shastri, we heard him suffixing Sir after the name of every senior player and Bhai after the name of the young guns, including Bhajji. Some change in tone has helped him secure a strong fanbase that has spread beyond Kerala. Even Sangakkara admitted the might of Sree at the post match presentation.
He won the Man of the Match award for the test match, that marked the 100th victory for INDIA in tests.
It was a test of might and milestones for India and Sreesanth took away three-fourth of all the glory. A Happy man as he is, prayed to God after every wicket he took.
A Great game indeed and greater was it made by Sree, who happens to hail from my Hometown in Cochin. And what makes me a greater fan of his is the fact that he's known as GOPU at home,,,thats my petname too... :P
This is the perfect Indian team.
Waiting for more OUTSWINGERS sweeping in the Reverse!
